Development Alternative Organization is a non-profitable, non-partisan and non-government organization, working in the field of community and human resources development in its working area.

Established in the Bara District of Nepal in 2056, the NGO envisions people working together for sustainable development, self reliant and equitable society. DAO conducts various development activities and implements community projects through the assistance of Living Earth Institute (LEI) and Poverty Alleviation Fund (PAF) Nepal donors.

It is one of the pioneering local organizations that adopted participatory approaches in working with marginalized families and communities during the delivery of development programs in its working VDC and municipality.

DAO has an intensive 26 years of Professional experience in Development work in two districts of Nepal. This has enabled the Organization to assume a greater role in terms of enriching the human resource capacities of its partner Community-based organizations and local agencies through conduct of onsite and off-site training. DAO provides short courses on community based development such as Participatory Rural Appraisal, Proposal and Project Development, Water and Sanitation. At present it is working in Bara district merely of Nepal implementing various developments.

 
DAO has vision to eliminate all kinds of disparities in rural areas through overall development of socio economically unprivileged, poor and most excluded communities' people.

DAO has mission to develop the most excluded people like Dalit, Janajati and Madhesi and low caste people and women to improve their sustainable livelihood and quality of living.
